Practicing with Maragata – Polo Helmet Camera

Maragata polo has been kind enough to record and share these helmet cam videos from some of their practices.

I really enjoy these helmet cam practices. Watching these, it’s very easy to feel yourself slip into “game mode.” I’ll start off watching them very dispassionately: “Nice backhand there,” “Where’s he going with that?” etc. But very quickly I’ll find myself much more absorbed, totally within the game. “Look for the hook” becomes, more simply, “hook hook hook!”

I find it impossible to watch these without getting an adrenaline rush. I think it also motivates me to analyze my own play in a way that’s difficult to do otherwise. Even though I haven’t been on the polo field all winter, after watching one of these, I’ll find myself thinking of the ways I would have reacted (or perhaps more accurately, thinking of the ways that I hope I would have reacted!) when I find myself in similar situations.
